Summer Update

Hi everyone,

As we move into summer I thought I would take the opportunity to give you all a personal update.

June has been been an incredibly busy month but in the best possible way. Apart from my private teaching studio AD Music, I also teach at the Taber Music School and Kaleidoscope Theatre. Both of these follow the public school calendar and as such take a break for the summer months.

I’m incredibly proud of all of my students and everything they have accomplished this past year. I am so grateful for the opportunity to connect and make music with each of them whether that was in person or online.

I think that summer is an important time for children as it gives them a break from their busy routine throughout the year. It’s an opportunity to rest, play, and discover new things. I firmly believe that everyone deserves a break from practicing. On the other hand, summer can be a great time to focus on music as you may have more free time. Whatever the case, you get the choose!

At the beginning of June I also started a new job as an instructor with a company called Singdaptive. Based in Victoria, Singdaptive is an online, interactive streaming service dedicated to comprehensive learning for singers. My role as an instructor is to work with students using a unique online platform called Exchangely. It’s essentially on-demand Vocal Coaching that is done asynchronously. What do I mean by asynchronously? It means that I as the instructor will create create an exchange for the student with a number of tasks for them to complete. This is in the form of videos and text instructions on the platform. The student then responds with a video as well as text depending on what the task instructs them to do. It’s a very unique and different way of interacting. I am learning so much about teaching, singing and about technology. The company is incredibly supportive and I really feel welcome and part of their team. The whole process is very collaborative and interactive. I finish every session feeling inspired and fulfilled. It’s been a wonderful experience so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for myself and Singdaptive.

If you’d like to learn more about Singdaptive and Exchangely I recommend you checkout their website.

I’m also getting prepared to take more Vocal Pedagogy courses this month. In January I had the pleasure of taking Level I Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method. This course has not only changed the way that I teach but also the way that I sing. I will be taking Levels II and III back to back from July 20th to 25th. I am so grateful that this has been offered online this year as it’s allowed people from all over the world to take the course. I can’t speak highly enough about the course itself as well as Jeanie LoVetri and all of the other faculty members. Please let me know if you have questions about Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method and how I use its principles in my teaching.

I have a number of ideas for future blog posts coming up during the summer. I will be taking a deep dive into the art of practicing and touching on the neuroscience behind it. I’ve just finished re-reading a book called The Inner Game of Tennis by Timothy Gallwey. It’s an excellent book that uses tennis as a medium to explain the theory of Left Brain vs. Right Brain and how they must work together to achieve peak performance.

Covid-19 Restrictions in British Columbia are beginning to loosen and I am hopeful for the future as things slowly begin to open back up. I’m even singing in a live church service this Sunday at St. Barnabas in Victoria! I would like to say that I’m cautiously optimistic about the state of the pandemic but nevertheless it seems we are moving in the right direction.

I would once again like to thank each and every one of you for sharing your time and your voices with me. It is such a joy and pleasure to make music with you all.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. It means a lot to me. If you would like to hear more from me then I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter and follow me on social media.

I look forward to seeing you in the studio and online!

Sincerely,

Adam
